One in five women suffers from unusual and excessive menstrual bleeding called Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB) which can significantly disrupt your qualify of life.

Symptoms: If you’re suffering with AUB, you maybe experiencing any of these symptoms:

  • Have a menstrual flow that oaks through one or more pads or tampons every hour for several hours in a row.
  • Need to double up on pads to control your menstrual flow.

The Procedure: When Endometrial Ablation is recommended, it is a safe, effective and successful in-office procedure that destroys the endometrium (lining of your uterus) to stop or reduce your menstrual flow. There is no need for general anesthesia, no incisions, and no hospitalization. One of our Women’s Center Physicians will insert slender tools through your cervix — the passageway between your vagina and your uterus. Normal saline will fill a balloon to expand and fill the uterus. The liquid is heated using radio frequency to destroy (ablate) the uterine lining.

After the Procedure: You may cramping, nausea, and vaginal discharge that may be watery and mixed with blood. This discharge will become clear after a couple of days and can last for around 1 to 2 weeks. It usually takes a few days to 2 weeks to fully recover. 

Contraindications: Endometrial Ablation is not recommended for women who:

  • Wish to become pregnant in the future
  • Have significant cramping with menstrual periods
  • Have cancer of the uterus
  • Were recently pregnant
  • Are past menopause
